This is What is REALLY Making You Fat..

It's almost summer, you're getting ready for all the BBQ's and summer pool parties all your friends will be having or you will be going out on the boat every Sunday like I will be! This is the time where women get very self conscious about themselves - when they put on their bikini and nothing has changed or they have gained some extra weight over the winter (those Christmas cookies are coming back to haunt you!). They either have been working pretty hard in the gym or haven't been working at all and now regret it.

Trust me, it ain't easy getting your butt to the gym consistently and eating right 80% of the time but if you have a rhyme or reason, you'll have no choice and get it done to reach your goals! First things first, be honest with yourself here. Have you REALLY been putting in the work? I'm talking about consistently going to the gym 4-5 times per week, eating very clean 80% of the time, not sitting around every chance you get and going on walks. Is this you but you still don't see the results you want? Listen up and look below on some other causes that could be why you aren't losing weight or getting in the shape you want to get in.

1. Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep is essential for the body to repair and grow. Not only you need sleep to grow your muscles and slim down but you need it for your cognitive function. If you aren't getting enough sleep, your workouts could be suffering which means you aren't working as hard as you could. When you don't get enough sleep your cortisol levels rise which is a stress hormone that correlates to fat gain. Cortisol also activates reward centers in your brain that make you want food. Sleep deprivation makes weight loss nearly impossible so try to get a minimum of 6-8 hours of quality sleep per night.

2. Not Eating Carbohydrates

There's so many people out there who are on these new crazy diets where you aren't suppose to be eating any carbohydrates. I don't want to name anything specifically but not eating carbohydrates could be detrimental when it comes to weight loss. A lot of people correlate carbohydrates with white bread, granola bars, cereal, pasta and all the 'bad' foods. When people go on these diets they lose a lot of weight not because they cut out carbs but because they cut out all the crap from their diet. For your brain to properly function you need carbs for energy.. I'm talking' HEALTHY carbs!! Like; sweet potatoes, red potatoes, quinoa, oats, rice, vegetables and fruits. These type of carb will help fill you up more and be used for good not fill your body with sugar! Opt in for healthy carbohydrates on the daily.

3. Working Out Too Much

Everyone's like "Go hard or home betch!" First thing's first, if you are working out for more than an hour in the gym - what the eff are you doing! Well I guess if you are chatty then it could take you long to do a few exercises but you shouldn't be going hard lifting weights and then dying on the treadmill for another forty minutes. BUT my main concern is people working out 6-7 days a week.. or people thinking they have to do that to get the body of their dreams. It's false. People go so hard in the gym and then they sit in the office all day or sit on their couches for the remainder of the day. Remember, there's 24 hours in a day - when you workout for an hour, you have 23 more hours of the day to stay healthy. So instead of binging on Netflix, go for a long walk. Working out is great and all but living a healthy lifestyle means you have to do healthy things outside of the gym as well!
