Nutrition While Traveling


It doesn’t matter where you are traveling to, being prepared is super important when you have goals. It is so easy to eat too much and drink too much while traveling. Whether you are going on a week long vacation or just a boat trip for a day, it’s very important to have some sort of plan to get you through the day without feeling hungry. A lot of the times we start getting hungry and BOOM it hits you then next thing you know you ate the whole entire pizza. (yes, that happens to me if I’m not prepared)



In the Car

It always happens… you’ve finally hit the road, and then all of a sudden it hits you, time to pull over to eat or start eating those snacks you got at the gas station. The last thing you need to have is an endless supply of junk food. Instead, pack a few snacks and easy meals. To keep things fresh, bring some airtight containers and a cooler along. Here are some foods to eat while traveling in a car:

  • Yogurt (I LOVE the Okios Greek Yogurt  It has no added sugar plus 15g of protein!)
  • Beef Jerky (Great source of protein)
  • Any type of cut up fruit or veggies
  • Hard boiled eggs

Make sure you pack a cooler when you are on the road, it will be a life saver when you want to save anything that needs to be refrigerated. If you hail from New Jersey, like I do, Wawa is an essential for everyone here! They actually have been coming out with a ton more healthier options that you can order.


On the Plane

Airlines are the worst when it comes to healthy food. Luckily now in some bigger airports we are starting to see healthier places to grab something to eat so it’s slowly getting easier! Instead of spending all your money on expensive salty airport food you can save money by being prepared. You are allowed to bring food through security so don’t hesitate from bringing at home snacks/meals that you’ve already prepared. I love packing in my carry on bag:

  • Protein bars
  • Unsalted mixed nuts
  • Beef jerky
  • Homemade trail mix
  • Rice cakes with almond butter

or grab some whole fruits, egg white sandwiches at a shop inside the airport!


At the Beach

OKAY.. I’ve been waiting for this. Now that me and my boyfriend have a house on the bay, we are always going out on his boat so ya girl has got to be prepared at all times now! When you are out for the day especially in the sun – whether you are hiking, boating or spending the day at the beach you really need to focus on getting high – quality lean protein and healthy carbs. it’s super important to have a well balanced meals/snacks to keep you going all day long. Here are some snacks I bring in the cooler with me or going out:

  • Whole grain crackers
  • Protein shake (pre-made, I love Premier Protein! super easy.)
  • Sushi
  • Fish tacos
  • Skinny Popcorn
  • Poached eggs
  • Whole grain pasta salad


With so many fast food chains and large food portions served in restaurants, being too casual and having a mindset of, “I can eat whatever I want”, can wind up working against you, leaving you bloated, irritable and tired. Make eating healthy while on vacation a goal by sticking to a normal eating routine as much as possible.


When you go for long periods of time without eating, you’re far more likely to pick up something unhealthy. Live by the golden rule of eating something every 2-3 hours. It doesn’t have to be much, just a handful of nuts or a small tub of yogurt to keep your hunger at bay.
