How to Eat Healthy at a Restaurant
Luckily, now a days, restaurant owners are starting to understand people are trying to be a bit more healthy and conscious about what they are eating so they are starting to put healthier options on the menu. If you go to a chain restaurant, a lot of them now even have the calories right next to the meal! ..could be a good or bad thing 😉 First thing I tell my clients is before even going out, look up the menu before you leave. So you can get an idea of what they offer and you aren’t going to blow it all last minute because the waitress is waiting .. I’ve been there haha! Salads are always a great idea but be careful. Restaurants like to put their own twist on it and make it very high in calories.. Just as much as those burger and fries Be you wanted! Ask for extra protein and instead of whatever dressing they have on it, get a balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Also, be sure to pick a somewhat healthy restaurant so you aren’t tempted either!
Now, what if you are going to a party where you have no clue what there is to eat there. The only thing you can do in those situations is make the best choices possible. Be sure to grab your choice of protein and veggies first – eat that and then go for any fats or carbohydrates. Fats and carbohydrates aren’t bad but when they are aren’t the ‘healthy’ carbs or fats, the calories can rack up fast for a small portion.
My last tip for eating out is watching your portion control. Many restaurants really load up the plate, almost double the actual portion size. Eat until your 80% full, just because the food is there doesn’t mean you have to eat it. Box up the rest and take it home for another meal tomorrow.
Of course, my biggest tip is to have fun and enjoy your time out. Don’t stress out if you choose something that isn’t the healthiest. One bad meal won’t make you gain weight just like how one healthy meal won’t make you lose weight. Make the healthiest choices when you can, relax and enjoy it.
